Theology is a systematic study of religion and a professional trained in theology is known as a theologist or a theologian. Theology as a career is most suited for deeply religious people who want to groom their career as religious leaders or academicians in theology.An academic qualification in theology provides them with this necessary grooming along with a deeper understanding about various religions and religious scriptures.
Persons with theological qualifications can pursue either a purely academic career path in religious studies such as professors and teachers in religious educational institutions; therapists and counsellors in social welfare organizations; writers for religious publications; private religious consultants etc or a purely theological career path that leads to various religious careers such as clergymen and pastors of Catholic church, missionaries of various religions, evangelists and ministers of protestant church, spiritual leaders, rabbis of Judaism, teachers in theological seminaries, interpreters of religious scriptures etc.
There are several theological institutions which offer advanced courses in theology such as Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) and Master of Divinity (M.Div). Major course curriculum of MAR includes Bible, theology, and ministry classes. Master of Divinity (M.Div) degree is the standard professional degree for ministry and only those candidates with MAR are eligible for M.Div. courses.

In a nutshell, a career in theology is not only a career but a way of life also. So success in this career is assured only for those who are devoted to their religion.
