Radio Jockeying is a pure talent based career and there is no formal qualification required to become a radio jockey. People from any stream of subject or any walk of life can aspire to become a radio jockey. What one requires in this field is plenty of confidence, presence of mind, good communication skills, abundant energy and enthusiasm, and updated knowledge about latest movies and music. But most important of all, is the ability of a great voice modulation as this is a field where one’s personality is known by his/her voice.

Entry into the world of radio jockeys is normally through a tough auditioning process conducted by radio channels. Interested candidates can apply for an audition in their choice of radio station and selection is based on the performance of the candidate during audition. Selected candidates will then undergo a short period of training in the radio station before becoming professional radio jockeys.

Though no formal qualification or training is needed for becoming a radio jockey, there are certain institutes which offer courses such as Diploma in Radio Jockeying for the career aspirants. This is normally a short duration course during which candidates are trained in public speaking, voice modulation, language skills etc.

Since this is purely an entertainment based business, major job profile of a radio jockey is to ensure absolute entertainment of radio listeners by selecting their choice of music and playing their requests. It is also a part of their job to conduct interviews of the invited guests, write scripts for radio shows and anchor radio shows in a listener friendly manner.

In the competitive environment of multichannel radio stations, there is no dearth of jobs for radio jockeys and they are very much in demand in almost all radio channels for radio jockeying, radio advertisements and other related jobs.
