Programmes in Medical Laboratory Science in Canada

Medical-Laboratory-ScienceThere are mainly six Canadian universities that are highly reputed in the field of Medical Laboratory Science programmes. These are, University of Alberta, University of Toronto, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Dalhousie University, University of New Brunswick and the University of British Columbia.

University of New Brunswick and the University of British Columbia are well known for Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science programmes. Another bachelor level degree, Bachelor of Health Science in medical laboratory technology is available at the Dalhousie University. Bachelor of Health Science honours degree in Medical Laboratory Science is conduced at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. The University of Alberta also offers bachelor level programmes such as BSc in Medical Laboratory Science with Honors in Research, BSc in Medical Laboratory Science and Post-Professional Certificate BSc in Medical Laboratory Science. These bachelor level programmes are of three to four years duration and a bachelor degree is a prerequisite for the admission of master level programmes in Medical Laboratory Science.

Master level programmes in Medical Laboratory Science are available at the University of Alberta. Major two courses offered at the university are MSc Laboratory Medicine & Pathology and MSc in radiology and diagnostic imaging. These master level programmes are of one to two years duration and a master degree is a prerequisite for the admission of doctoral level programmes in Medical Laboratory Science.

Doctoral level programmes in Medical Laboratory Science are conducted at the University of Toronto and University of Alberta. University of Toronto offers a PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology while University of Alberta conducts two doctoral programmes, PhD Laboratory Medicine & Pathology and PhD Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging. Successful completion of a doctoral programme requires three to four years of regular university education.
