You need to have either a Diploma in Pharmacy or a Bachelor in Pharmacy to apply for most of the positions existing in this industry.  For applying for high profile positions existing in departments such as new drug discovery research, process control and development, drug formulation, clinical trials and toxicological studies, you must have a Masters Degree or PhD in pharmacy.

Major job profiles of pharmacy graduates are as clinical pharmacists, medical representatives, drug inspectors, chemists or druggists and so on. Candidates are absorbed in laboratories for doing research work, in production plants for developing new drugs, in quality departments for quality analysis of drugs and for sales and marketing of newly developed drugs. Hospitals and health centres, pharma retail stores and drug research organizations are other employers of the pharmacy graduates where they can work as hospital pharmacists, retail pharmacists and research pharmacists respectively.

Another potential career choice is in academic sector as lecturers and research associates. Various government organizations have positions for drug controllers and a graduation in pharmacy is the minimum eligibility to apply for this job. Pharmacy graduates are also required in areas like documentation for patenting processes; pharma-journalism; field level drug trials etc.

Self employment is the best career option for highly experienced pharmacy professionals where they can engage in providing consultancy services in pharmacy, patenting process and documentation, legal formalities, market research and surveys etc
