Planning and Architecture Courses in Canada

University-of-TorontoSeveral Canadian universities conduct courses in various areas of planning and architecture namely City Planning, Urban Planning, Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environment Designing and Community Designing.

Master of Architecture, Master of Planning, MSc in Planning and MA in Planning are offered at the University of Calgary and Dalhousie University. University of the Fraser Valley offers Architectural Drafting Technician certificate  while University of Manitoba awards a doctoral level qualification, PhD in Design and Planning.

Carleton University is a preferred education destination for degree courses such as BA in history and theory of architecture (general), Bachelor of architectural studies (honours) and Bachelor of architectural studies. Ryerson University offers an Advanced Certificate in Architecture while PhD in architecture, Master in architecture and Bachelor of Science in architecture are available at the McGill University.

University of Toronto is popular for bachelor level courses, BA in Architectural Studies (concentration in History, Theory, Criticism) (Major) and BA in Architectural Studies (concentration in design) (Major) while University of Waterloo is popular for Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) in architecture and BES honours in planning.

Courses on City Planning and City Studies are available at the University of Manitoba (Master of city planning) and University of Toronto (BA in City Studies). Bachelor of Community Design is offered at the Dalhousie University. As far as courses on rural planning are concerned, University of Guelph offers a Graduate diploma in rural planning and development and MSc Rural Planning and Development.

Urban and Regional Planning programmes are available at the Ryerson University and the Queen’s University. Major courses offered by these universities are Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURPl) and Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MPL). University of Toronto also offers a Master of Urban Design (MUD) while a Master of urban planning (MUP) is available at the McGill University.

Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture are awarded by the University of Toronto, University of Guelph, University of Manitoba and the University of British Columbia. Ryerson University offers a Certificate in Landscape Design.

Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies, Master of environmental studies in planning and PhD in environmental design are available at the University of Calgary, University of British Columbia, University of Manitoba, Dalhousie University and University of Waterloo.
