merchant-navyIf you’re one among the clan who wants to live life differently by being adventurous and visiting various exotic lands every single year then maybe Merchant Navy is the perfect profession for you. Spending a major portion of your time on the board is required. But not to forget that they for sure will turn into memories of your lifetime because such is the thrill and excitement involved.

Before you make any decision, you need to contemplate and make sure that this is what you exactly want because a strong presence of mind is required when you are on the ship. You also need to be physically fit when you’re at work. Work will be strenuous but you’ll enjoy the fruits of labor.

There are basically different departments whose involvement is quite essential. We basically have the Deck department who organize everything on board and are responsible for the navigation of the ship. They are responsible for discipline and safety of every thing on board let it be passengers or cargo.

Next is the Technical department whose main job profile is the maintenance and troubleshooting of engines. This we must tell you is a wonderful opportunity for fresh engineering graduates to learn. The engines that you see in a car or a truck are nothing when compared to that of the ship. With pistons as huge as the size of a room and various new technologies that you never must have even seen, this is a perfect place to learn.

And then we also have the service department, whose primary duty is to take care of the requirements and provide services to the deck department, technical department and passengers in case of a passenger ship. They are responsible for catering services, serving, cleaning of quarters and maintaining the store by checking the stock lists.

Eligibility and Remuneration

The minimum eligibility for applying for the post of a marine engineer you must have finished your marine engineering or mechanical/electrical engineering. There is also an option for direct entry wherein the student needs to have finished his 10+2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics as subjects. And coming to the remuneration, Merchant Navy jobs pay you really good and you get all kinds of allowances. What else do you need?
