There are several Canadian colleges and universities that offer well structured courses in interior design and interior architecture. Most popular names among them are those of the University of Alberta, the Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the Vancouver Island University, the University of Manitoba and the Ryerson University.
Major study programmes offered by these universities include popular academic programmes namely Residential Interiors Certificate Program, Certificate in Lighting Design, Certificate in the Fundamentals of Interior Design, Advanced Certificate in the Fundamentals of Interior Design, Bachelor of Interior Design and Master of interior design.
Residential Interiors Certificate Program is a short term certificate programme available at the University of Alberta. Major focus of this course is the interior designing principles of residential buildings such as private villas, apartments and housing societies. This course can be completed within three to nine months.
Bachelor level qualifications such as Bachelor of Interior Design are provided by the Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the Vancouver Island University, the University of Manitoba and the Ryerson University. Bachelor programmes can be completed within a period of three to four years.
Master level qualifications are also available at these universities and major course offered for international students include a Master of interior design programme. Duration of master programmes is about one to two years.
Ryerson University is also well known for short duration certificate programmes in interior design such as Certificate in the Fundamentals of Interior Design, Certificate in the Fundamentals of Interior Design (Advanced Programme) and Certificate in Lighting Design.
