Institute of Rural Management Anand Institute of Rural Management Anand, which is also famous as IRMA, came into existence in the year of 1979 at the Anand district of Gujarat. Considered as one of the top business schools in the country, it was established with the endeavor of the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat in collaboration with Indian Dairy Corporation and the National Dairy Development Board.

Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) has gained approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India and also recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Talking about the courses, IRMA imparts post graduate and certificate level programmes in the field of management. In addition, the institute also conducts research level programme in various specializations of the business study. All the programmes are imparted by the institute as per the rules and regulations set up by the AICTE.

Programme in Rural Management (PRM)


Institute of Rural Management Anand offers two-year residential programme in the form of Programme in Rural Management (PRM). The post graduate programme leads students towards Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) that being recognized as similar to the Master’s degree course.

The PRM programme is duly approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The programme focuses on the areas like financial accounting, Economic Analysis for Rural Management, Individual and Group Behaviour, Rural Society and Polity, Managerial Analysis and Communication, Rural Research Methods, Rural Livelihood Systems and so on.

The eligibility requires for this post graduate programme is to have passed in three years of bachelor’s level examination in any discipline, from any recognized institute or university. The qualifying examination needs to have cleared by the candidates with not less than 50% marks in aggregate. However, the SC/ST candidates must have scored at least 45% marks in aggregate. The final year appearing students of the examination can also apply for this PG programme.


Admissions to Programme in Rural Management (PRM) course are done on the basis of candidates’ performances in the entrance test, which will be conducted by the institute. The successful candidates will be called for group discussion and personal interview to finalize their selections for this course.

Certificate Programme in Dairy Management


The Certificate Programme in Dairy Management (CPDM) is offered by Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) with the aim of providing quality education to the candidates belong to cooperative dairy federations and unions, other milk producers organisations and dairy development promotional organisations. It is being taught by five faculty members from IRMA.

The certificate programme is being conducted to cover these specializations, such as Quantitative Applications for dairy management, business communication and presentation skills, marketing research methods for dairy sector, planning, budgeting & costing in dairying, empowerment, equity and gender in dairying, group dynamics & collective action, managerial analysis & communication, managing change in organizations and many more.

In order to be eligible for this programme, one has to complete under graduation or post graduation in B.Tech. (DT) / M.Tech. (DT) / B.V.Sc. & AH / M.V.Sc. / BE / B.Tech. / M. Tech. / ME (Mech / Elec / Civil / EC / Computer), with not less than 65% marks in aggregate, from any recognized University or its equivalent.

All the selected candidates of this programme will be sponsored by a dairy federation like Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF) or a dairy union like AMUL or a Milk Producers’ Company.

Certificate in Rural Management (CRM)


Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) also provides another certificate programme in the shape of Certificate in Rural Management (CRM). This is a one-year full time programme for those professionals who are working in cooperatives, development organizations and in other rural sector organizations.

The candidates, who have successfully passed graduation level of examination with required number of marks, are eligible to apply for this programme. Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM)


The research level study is also conducted in the Institute of Rural Management Anand. It conducts Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM), which is a minimum three years and maximum six years of duration. The research programme is conducted with the objective of promoting scholarship and enhancing knowledge in the field of Rural Management.

Those candidates are eligible to apply for this research programme that have completed Programme in Rural Management (PRM) or have passed post graduation in any discipline from a statutory university with not less than 55% marks and under graduation with at least 50% marks in aggregate. In addition, they must have attained one year of work experience after completing post graduate studies.

Selections to the Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM) are decided according to the performances of the aspirants in the written test, which will consist of analytical reasoning, quantitative ability, English comprehension and issues of social concern. The selected candidates will have to appear in personal interview conducted by the institute.
