The wrong lifestyle of the modern world has its own negative effects such as the incidence of new lifestyle diseases and the growing number of various diseases. Quality patient care is the only solution for all these problems and there is a huge demand for trained medical and healthcare professionals in the health care field.
The demand for professionally trained medical and healthcare experts resulted in the development new course curriculums which are meant to churn out competent hospital administrative and managing staff. Some of these courses are Bachelor/Master of Hospital Administration, Bachelor/Master of Hospital Management, Bachelor/Master of Hospital Administration and Management, Bachelor/Master of Hospital Management and Marketing of Medical Services, Bachelor/Master of Hospital Personnel Management, Masters Programme in Healthcare Administration, Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital and Health Care Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Medico Legal Systems, Post Graduate Diploma in Preventive and Promotive Health Care and M.Phil in Hospital and Health Systems Management. Bachelors programme is a three-year degree course while Masters Programme is a two-year course.
The minimum requirement for the admission of post graduate level courses is M. B. B. S. degree or Bachelors in a Paramedical course or graduation in Nursing and minimum two years of relevant professional experience is preferred. Some institutes admit graduates from life sciences stream also.
Career options are majorly limited in two sectors such as Hospital Management and Administration and Patient Healthcare. The major job profile is to plan, coordinate and control all administrative and managerial functions of the organizations active in the healthcare industry such as hospitals, clinics, health centres, nursing homes, medical institutes, medical centres, research laboratories, NGOs operating in the health care sector, organizations operating in medical tourism field, international and domestic healthcare institutes etc.
Fresh candidates are absorbed in entry level positions such as Assistant Hospital Administrators or Assistant Managers or Assistant Healthcare Administrators. Major responsibility of this position is to assist senior management to achieve the organizational goals such as quality patient care, cost effective healthcare services, overall coordination of various departments of the organisation for efficient functioning etc.
