There are numerous academic institutions in New Zealand that offer Certificate Programmes in Hair Dressing.

Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand is highly reputed for its one year duration Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 4) and Diploma in Hairdressing academic programmes. WINTEC (Waikato Institute of Technology) is equally reputed for its one year Certificate in Hairdressing.

Universal College of Learning (UCOL) conducts a Certificate in Hairdressing, Cosmetology & Nail Technology – Level 4  and length of the course is anything between 1 and 2 years. Southern Institute of Technology offers a six month duration Hairdressing Foundation certificate.

Manukau Institute of Technology is popular for one year duration certificate courses such as Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 4), Certificate in Hairdressing Fundamentals L3 and Certificate in Barbering L3.

Servilles Academy of Hairdressing offers the Servilles Academy Foundation Certificate in Hairdressing and the Servilles Academy Level 4 Certificate in Hairdressing. Length of each programme is between 6 months and 1 year.

Winters, the School of Hairdressing provides a Certificate in Hairdressing and Design (Level 3) and the length of the course is between 6 months and 1 year. Waiariki Institute of Technology also offers a Certificate in Hairdressing of the same course duration.

Wellington Institute of Technology offers Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) with course duration between 6 months and 1 year. One year duration Weltec Certificate in Hairdressing & Beauty – Hairdressing Option and Weltec Certificate in Hairdressing & Beauty – Beauty Option are also available at the Wellington Institute of Technology.

Bay of  Plenty Polytechnic and Whitireia Community Polytechnic are well known for one year Certificate in Hairdressing and one year National Certificate in Hairdressing respectively while Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology offers a Certificate in Professional Hairdressing of course duration between 1 and 2 years

Eastern Institute of Technology, Hawke’s Bay is also famous for programmes such as Certificate in Advanced Hairdressing of course duration between 3 and 6 months and National Certificate in Hairdressing of course duration between 1 and 2 years.
