DAT: Dental Admission Test of America

Dental Admission Test (DAT) is a computer adaptive entrance examination conducted by the American Dental Association for the prospective dental school students. DAT is administered through a wide network of Prometric test centers.

Candidates who wish to appear for the DAT test can enroll their names online at the official website of the American Dental Association (www.ada.org). Registration by mail is also possible. Fee for a DAT test is USD 225. Minimum eligibility to take the DAT Test is that the test-taker must have completed at least two years of college study with biology and chemistry as major subjects.

Dental Admission Test (DAT) is a multiple-choice exam and it has four parts such as Survey of the Natural Sciences Test; Perceptual Ability Test (PAT); Reading Comprehension Test and Quantitative Reasoning Test. Total time of DAT test is 255 minutes and total number of questions asked is 280.

Survey of the Natural Sciences Test

It is a 90 minutes duration test on biology and chemistry. Total number of questions is 100 out of which 40 questions are on biology, 30 questions are on general chemistry and remaining 30 questions are on organic chemistry.


PAT is a one hour long test designed to test the perpetual ability of the test-takers. The test has 90 questions in total.

Reading Comprehension Test

Reading Comprehension Test is also a one hour long test and designed to test the comprehension skills of the test-takers. Total number of questions is 50. The test has three passages and test-takers are asked to evaluate these passages in order to answer the questions followed.

Quantitative Reasoning Test

Quantitative Reasoning Test is a 45 minutes duration test which comprises of 40 questions from basic mathematics such as algebra; statistics; geometry; trigonometry, critical thinking, fractions and applied mathematics.

Soon after the DAT test, test-takers are provided with the test report and a copy of the test score is also mailed at their given addresses.
