Career as a business analyst is a prestigious career option in the corporate world and many youngsters are aspiring to be a successful business analyst in today’s time. This is majorly because of the lucrative compensation package and high profile tag associated with this career position. But in reality, being a business analyst means a greater responsibility of making a corporate firm as profitable as it can be.
The ideal candidate for the position of a business analyst is a candidate with a MBA qualification from a reputed management institute. Some firms prefer candidates with a few years of professional experience as project leaders or financial analysts in the fields of finance, accounting, market research or business analysis.
Major career responsibilities of a business analyst include various functions such as collecting, understanding and analyzing relevant data in order to assess the current status of the firm, reviewing company’s past and present data, especially financial data, making economically viable proposals and recommendations based on his findings for improving the performance of the company or to make it more profitable, drafting various performance related documents, business manuals, protocols etc, imparting training to the team staff, preparing official reports about company’s performance over a period, and finally presenting a report before the top management.
The key technical skills that are required for being a successful business analyst include strong ability for business analysis, technical knowledge about various business analysis methodologies, strong leadership ability to lead a project team and sufficient technical knowledge about various business protocols and business process manuals.
Various personality traits that are required for a position of business analyst include traits such as result orientation, good communication skills, strong negotiation skills, excellent skills in interacting with project team, strong comprehension ability, good reviewing and documentation skills, consulting and advisory skills and finally excellent presentation skills.
