Digital imaging technology has become an inevitable part of modern healthcare industry and its applications are becoming more widespread in hospitals, health centres, clinics, digital imaging facilities and all other health care facilities because of its multiple advantages. A career in digital imaging technology or radiography, as it is popularly known, will be quite satisfying for the people who love to work with hospitals and healthcare industry.
You need to have minimum a diploma or degree in radiography or radiology to apply for a position in this field. Both diploma level and graduate level courses are available in radiography at national and international level institutes. Major specializations available in radiography are Computed Tomography (CT), Computed Tomography (CT) Mammography and Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
As far as career in radiography is concerned, a major percent of jobs exist in hospitals, healthcare facilities, private diagnostic centres and clinics. People with right qualifications and relevant experience are absorbed as radiologists, sonographers, technicians etc and paid a decent remuneration for their services.
Plenty of career options exist in healthcare industry for radiographers such as CT technologists, MR technologist, X-ray technicians or Radiographers, Sonographer and Mammographists.
CT technologists: They are responsible for performing CT scans of the patient’s body parts using cross-sectional X rays in order to produce a three-dimensional image. CT is an advanced diagnosis tool highly recommended for its accuracy.
MR technologists: They specialize in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and use of MRI in diagnostics has increased tremendously in recent times.
Mammographists: They are the radiographers who specialize in mammography.
X- Ray technicians: They are responsible for taking X-ray by preparing the patient for the test by positioning the patient for optimal X-ray view.
Career Advancement: Experienced radiographers can advance very fast in their career with an additional training and may become specialists in their field. They may be promoted to the positions such as chief radiologic technologist, department administrator or director over a period of time.
