If you have made up your mind about your career choice as a politician or a political scientist, study political science during graduation because it is the science of government regulations and a detailed study of power among decision makers.

While you are in college, participate in extra curricular activities which will groom your interpersonal skills and public speaking skills. A politician should be a good orator and should be a man of common people. You should try to become an active member in any of the college political parties because a party affiliation is always needed to have a successful political career.

You should start your budding political career by participating in college elections which will groom your campaigning and fundraising skills. Another important aspect is networking. You must try to establish your name and reputation with higher party officials as a dedicated party member.

Though formal educational qualifications are not necessary to make a career in politics, it is always an advantage to have at least a graduation in any subject. After successful completion of your college, start a career in politics with the lower cadre of the party which will allow you to realize the ground realities. Gradually work your way up through the ranks of your party by willingly shouldering the major party responsibilities.

If your aspiration is to become a political scientist, then you need to have higher academic qualifications such as a master’s or doctorate degree in political science. You can specialize in any of the following fields such as comparative politics, international politics, and national politics. As a political scientist your major responsibilities are to conduct political surveys, analyze election results, consulting with governmental officials on public policy issues and so on.

Political scientists have a great career scope in government organizations, financial institutions, historical societies, investment firms and universities.
