Careers in audio engineering or sound engineering are becoming a fascinating career choice among youngsters because of the large career opportunities this discipline offers in the field of entertainment. In the recent past, the demand for sound engineers and audio engineers has been increased considerably because of the growth trend observed in the entertainment industry.

Audio engineering is an inevitable part of a motion picture production. Audio engineering is, in fact, a highly technical field which uses advanced audio technologies. Audio engineering deals with the processes of sound recording, sound editing, and sound mixing by paying close attention to even the minutest of the sound variations and other quality related aspects in order to reproduce the recorded sound in a superior quality. The desired sound effects are created in the final product by using sophisticated audio technologies (such as signal processors and digital technology) and sophisticated electronic audio equipments (such as electronic sound mixing board and digital work stations).

There are several film and television institutes, universities and private colleges that offer degree and diploma courses in sound engineering. Various courses offered by them are graduate diploma in audiography, post graduate diploma in audio engineering and diploma in sound recording. Duration of most of the courses varies from a few months to one year. Course curriculum includes both theoretical and practical training. During the education, students are involved in live projects with digital work stations and advanced sound sequencing softwares.

There is no dearth of jobs for qualified people. Sound engineers and sound technicians are largely employed by film production companies, television channels, radio stations, music video production houses and such other organizations. But candidates are required to have at least a diploma in audio engineering to start a career in this field. Reputed movie production houses prefer candidates with relevant professional experience.
