Civil Engineering is the most popular and commonly used engineering discipline in the world. It has also been given the attributes such as the broadest and oldest engineering discipline. Civil Engineering is nothing but the study and practice of carrying out engineering aspects and principles for constructing various structures such as roads, bridges, canals etc for civilian use.
Career as a Civil Engineer has become a popular career choice among students who are good in subjects such as mathematics and science. Career aspirants must have at least a B.Tech in Civil Engineering or B.E. in Civil Engineering to begin a career in civil engineering field. Ambitious engineering graduates can go on studying M.Tech Civil Engineering or M.E. Civil Engineering which will train them for high profile engineering positions.
Qualified civil engineers are welcome in almost every field that is related with construction work. They are recruited by real estate firms, private construction firms, public work departments of government agencies, engineering consultancy organizations, NGOs, military organizations, research and academic institutions and so on. Major career positions available for them are as project engineers; construction engineers; project managers; structural engineers; consultant engineers, construction site supervisors, survey engineers etc.
Survey Engineers: are responsible for carrying out the site inspections and surveying of the proposed construction site in order to analyze the feasibility of the proposed project as well as the site suitability for the project.
Consultant Engineers: work with engineering consultancy firms and private construction companies. Their major responsibility is the planning and designing of the construction work and provide assistance to the private contractors and builders to carry out the proposed construction work.
Project Engineers/Construction Engineers: are responsible for all the engineering and construction work carried out at the project site. His job includes daily site visits, constant monitoring and supervision of the engineering work carried out at the site.
