Asian Religious Studies in UK

Birmingham-UniversityMany Universities and Colleges in the United Kingdom offer professional programmes in Asian Religious Studies such as Taoism, Buddhism, Sikh Studies and Hinduism for international applicants.

University of Manchester conducts courses such as “An Introduction to Taoism”, one week certificate level programme which is offered as a full time professional programme. Courses on Hindu and Sikh religions are available at the Cardiff University and major courses include doctoral level programmes, Hindu Traditions: Ancient, Medieval and Modern M.Phil; Hindu Traditions: Ancient, Medieval and Modern PhD; Sikh Traditions of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century PhD and Sikh Traditions of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century M.Phil. a master level programme, Religious Studies – Asian Religions MA is also available at the university.

University of Birmingham offers Sikh Studies M.Phil, a full time one year duration course which starts in the month of September. University of Bristol provides a master degree, Buddhist Studies MA. Indian Religions MA programmes are conducted at the University of Wales, Lampeter and this course starts in the month of October and it is offered as a full time postgraduate award.

Religious Studies GCE A2 Level and AS level certificate programmes are offered at the Long Road Sixth Form College. Course starts in the month of January. Courses are offered as full time on-campus programmes which lasts up to one year.

Major colleges in UK that offer courses on “Asian Religious Studies” are Isle of Man College and Halesowen College. Isle of Man College conducts one week duration certificate programmes, “Four Noble Truths” and “Karma and Rebirth in Our Daily Life”. Course is offered in the month of December. Halesowen College offers one year duration advanced diploma courses “Religious Studies Level 3 GCE A2 Level” and “Religious Studies Level 3 GCE AS Level”. Both of the courses are offered as full time on-campus study programmes.
