Legal profession has always been the most coveted field of study for the US students. There is very stiff competition among them for getting a berth in law schools. Meeting cutoff marks prove a challenging task for most of the students. Most of the law schools in US accept students with LSAT score of 145 and not less than it. The benchmark set for admission in some prestigious law schools of the country is more difficult to overcome. The cutoff marks in renowned law institutions are 160.
Eligibility criteria for admission in LLM
The eligibility criteria for admission in LLM is a degree in JD from any of the ABA accredited law schools. If the applicant is not a US citizen, he or she would require a bachelor or masters degree in law. The offshore candidate must have the eligibility to become a valid law practitioner in the country to which he or she belongs. The offshore applicants need to produce entire documents of academic degrees along with the evidence or license to prove he or she had been a practicing lawyer.
Eligibility criteria for admission in JD
Admission in Juris Doctor or JD is generally done on the basis of LSAT or Law School Admission Test score. LSAT is an eligibility test which is conducted after every three months. The half-day test is held at selected centers all across the world. All the ABA-approved law schools in the US require the candidates to sit for LSAT before they are considered for admission. Most of the Canadian law schools also require LSAT appearance as part of their admission process.
Other requirements
The criteria regarding admission requirements for law for a foreign student is a bit strict. The law schools in USA require proficiency in English language for granting request for admission. These schools require the competency in English language authenticated by TOEFL, STEP or IELTS scores. They also approve the competency level in English if the applicant has successfully completed Intensive English or Masters Prep from the ELS Language Center.
