Besides, a public relation job in the corporate sector has become a lucrative career option in recent times.

Public relation management is the management of two-way flow of information between an organization and its employees, shareholders and investors as well as between the organization and the media. Public relation activities of an organization include advice to top management on organizational policies, employee relationships and communications; research and analysis of the effect of organizational policies on the employees and the public; working with mass media for promoting the interests of the organization; and working on the successful relationship with the employees and shareholders.

There are several institutes of mass communications which provide diploma, degree and post graduate courses in public relations management and various specializations available in this field are Analyst Relations, Media Relations, Investor or Shareholder Relations and Labor or Employee Relations.

Plenty of career opportunities are available for qualified public relations professionals in the corporate sector as well as in government organizations as public relation officers; public relation managers and public relation executives. NGOs, academic institutions, entertainment industry, hospitals and healthcare agencies also require public relations professionals to promote their services.

The major job profile in the corporate sector is to promote the organization’s reputation and also to sell company’s products, services, and other business interests through advertising, publicity, market promotion, email communications, and trade shows. Information management, especially providing information to the public as well as to stockholders and investors, financial analysts and company employees is also a part of the public relation job.

The major job profile in the government sector includes management of government relations with various regulatory agencies, fund raising activities and lobbying.  Issues management is also a part of this job where a public relation official is responsible for the identification and analysis of the issues of public concern and successful management of the same. Creating and maintaining good investor relationships and industry relationships are also important part of this job.
