Journalism is nothing but the presentation of the events that are happening around the world in an accurate and unbiased manner. So if you are pondering over a journalism career the most important attribute you should have is the integrity and the courage to present things in a truthful way. Present day journalism is categorized into three groups which are print journalism, electronic journalism and web journalism.
Print journalism: As a print journalist you are supposed to work for print media which includes various newspapers, magazines, periodicals etc. Career options available are as writers, proofreaders, editors, reporters, columnists, critics, correspondents and photojournalists.
Electronic journalism: As an electronic journalist you work with electronic media such as various Radio stations, Television channels etc and your job profile may be as a production worker, transmission executives, sound technicians, camera workers, floor managers, reporters, writers, editors, researchers, correspondents, presenters and anchors.
Web journalism: It is nothing but online journalism and as a web journalist you work on creating online news content, editing and presenting them in a user friendly way.
A career in journalism is quite exciting and rewarding. If you have an extra ordinary curiosity to learn various topics and have a risk taking mentality, a journalism career is a right choice. You should also have an aptitude for presenting accurate information clearly in order to be successful in your chosen career.
You need to have at least a bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree in journalism or mass communication to pursue a career in this field. There are several institutes at national and international level who are offering courses such as M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication; M.A. Journalism; M.A. in Mass Communication; Master of Communication Studies (MCMs) and M.A. in Communication and Journalism. Various specializations are also available such as specialization in national and international politics, fashion and society, finance and economics, crime and investigation, and culture and sports.
